On the road again… well almost

About to embark on the next adventure… 2-3 month road trip around the States. I’ve been back in Perth, Australia, for just over 3 months now, and I’ve loved catching up with friends and family, but as the Summer here is coming to an end, I thought it time to hit the road once again.

  • Trip: USA road trip (West Coast; California, Oregon, Washington, Montana, Utah, Nevada, Arizona… wherever the road may take us)
  • Budget: $50 per day
  • Time: 2-3 months
  • Accommodation: couchsurfing, camping, the occasional hostel/motel … sleeping in the car…
  • Travel buddy: Michael Cowgill
  • Flight: Perth – Singapore (Tiger airways); Singapore – LA (via China) (Southern China airline) – total cost $850 one way

My travel buddy: I met Michael a few years ago through a mutual friend, and though I’ve never been traveling with Michael before, I’m sure there will be some benefits to traveling with him. Firstly, Michael is quite a tall and scary looking guy, his bald, shiny head I’m sure will scare off most of the grizzly bears we encounter; secondly, he is a fair bit taller than I am, so he can reach those items that tall people tend to store on top shelves, where average sized people (like myself) cannot reach (I’m sure there is some kind of height discrimination going on there). On the downside, Michael cannot drive, and is a terrible navigator, leaving it up to me to do all the driving, and navigating, which could result in an interesting road trip (we may end up accidentally visiting my brother in NY). Despite this, Michael is a great guy, and I only hope he can put up with my occasional road rage and car sing-alongs … I guess if not, I could always just leave him at a road house somewhere along the way 😉

Our freaky flight: So, we decided to book the cheapest flight combination we could find. The result, booking a flight that cost $666 flying on April Fools day, with an airline I’ve never heard of (Southern China)… Let’s hope we make it to LA…

Adios Perth, it’s been fun! Will definitely miss my family, friends (old & new) and of course the beautiful Perth beaches xxx

About Kelly Sheldrick

Life is awesome - make the most of it, while you can! I’m a yoga teacher in Bristol, UK and I teach Hatha yoga, Vinyasa, Yin yoga and Yoga Nidra. I’ve also completed a few long distance cycle trips and ran a few marathons and ultra marathons. Yoga has really helped to bring balance to my life - I’m quite an active person and I find it hard to stay still. Yoga helps me to stay grounded and gives me focus. It also helps me physically - from long distance running and cycling I have quite tight hamstrings, hip flexors, hip rotators and calves. Tightness in these areas can really start to impact on the lower back, creating lower back pain and can impact on the alignment of the pelvis and hips. Yoga has helped these right muscles reducing injury and discomfort. I have two websites, one for cycle touring and one for yoga. I also have videos for both. I offer a lot of online classes, both for runners, cyclists and beginners. I add a free Wednesday weekly yoga class on my site - follow or sign up to my email list to keep update. And if you have anything you’d love to see on my site, please get in touch. www.kellysheldrick.com www.cycletrekkers.com Thanks! Namaste! Kelly lo
